Minecraft Easter Activities

By Bec Oakley

Want to do Easter activities with the kids... but all they want to do is play Minecraft? Well why not combine them!

1.  Make an Easter egg hunt in Minecraft

If you've got younger kids then you're probably already familiar with Stampy. He makes family-friendly Minecraft videos on YouTube, and he did a really neat episode where he goes on a hunt for Easter eggs that other players have hidden for him. You could set up something similar for your family - hide eggs in chests and pop a sign on top with a clue to the location of the next egg.

The kids and I did an easter egg hunt and it was loads of fun. I put spawn eggs inside chests and hid them in various spots around the world - they had to find one of each type of egg then run back to the leader board where they could put the eggs up on the wall in an item frame. The best part was at the end when we had a blast spawning all the mobs :)

2.  Change your skin to the Easter bunny

Grab one that someone else made, or edit your skin to add a little cotton tail. Check out the 'how to change your skin' tutorial if you need help.

3.  Make spawn eggs

Try out the MineMum tutorial for DIY real life spawn eggs, it's a great way to get kids enthused about dyeing eggs!

4.  Make some Easter pixel art

There are loads of Easter crochet, needlepoint and perler patterns out there that would work great for pixel art. Or you can get the kids to draw and colour them on graph paper first to make their own patterns. I made a chick, a bunny and a Yoshi egg as a surprise for my kids. They're enormous! (The pixel art that is, my kids are regular size.)

5.  Spawn a bunny

If you know how to use a command block, you can spawn a really cool bunny into your game thanks to this post on the Minecraft Forum. Here's how to do it:

1.  Get a command block by typing /give <playername> command_block

2.  Place the command block, then right-click it and add the following code (Control + V to paste):

/summon Skeleton ~ ~1 ~ {CustomName:"Dinnerbone",Riding:{id:"Skeleton",CustomName:"Bugs Bunny",Invulnerable:1,Attributes:[{Name:generic.followRange,Base:1.0},{Name:generic.attackDamage,Base:100}],Equipment:[{id:391},{},{},{},{Damage:3,id:397,tag:{SkullOwner:"rabbit2077"}}]},Equipment:[{},{},{},{},{Damage:3,id:397,tag:{SkullOwner:"slenderboss69"}}],Invulnerable:1}

3.  Power the command block by placing a pressure plate next to it

4.  Step on the pressure plate to spawn your bunny!

Happy Easter everybody!
